It is my view that people devoid of interest are unlikely to be murdered. People are murdered for gain, for fear, or for love.

⚠️TW: Mention of themes related to the following can be found in this book: physically harming a child, drowning, dead bodies, and murder.

To those who love Agatha Christie and cozy, murder mysteries or want to explore this genre, this book will be perfect for you.

Where to grab a copy?

This pundit highly recommends finding a copy you can borrow (e.g., from a friend or library) instead of immediately buying a new book. Trees are generally used to make the paper in the books we read, so let’s be mindful.

If not possible, that’s only when one should consider buying a new book, and make sure to support your local bookshops. Online shopping must only be your last resort.

Happy reading!

Hours after boasting that she once witnessed someone getting murdered, Joyce Reynolds was found dead - drowned in a tub of water used for bobbing apples in a Hallowe'en Party.
Feeling guilty that her presence was the reason that the topic of murder was even raised, Ariadne Oliver, a well-known mystery writer, seeks the advice and help of her friend, Hercule Poirot, to solve the mystery before another body turns up.

Why read “Hallowe’en Party”

As a mystery thriller fan, it is difficult to say no when a book says Agatha Christie on the cover. Other than the thrill of solving mysteries, the ever present societal commentary in the characters’ conversations is something I always look forward to in her books.

There are also characters (that may or may not be connected to the case) that are lovable and relatable, or downright funny, you can’t help but root for them and/or want them to keep showing up in the narrative.

Drawbacks of “Hallowe’en Party”

Based on her works that I’ve read so far plus the anticipation from such a chilling title, I expected a highly thrilling mystery like “And Then There Were None” or “Murder in the Orient Express“. However, this one turned out to be in the cozier spectrum of this genre. It didn’t take away from this book being a classic, but it did make it difficult to finish.

Nonetheless, this is one classic cozy, murder mystery that every lover of this genre, especially the works of Agatha Christie i.e., Monsieur Poirot’s adventures should add to their TBR.
