It’s what you do when you’ve experienced the worst of the worst. You seek out people like you…people worse off than you…and you use them to make yourself feel better about the terrible things that have happened to you.

A twisted, creepy tale that will haunt you on a chill Sunday afternoon making you once again think what verity is for this story.

⚠️TW: Mention of themes related to the following can be found in this book: cheating, child abuse, child death, infanticide, & violence.

Who will love it?

The story gave me a ‘Wag Kang Lilingon’ (a Filipino movie) vibe with the story’s ambiance and mind-bending ending. So those who like that kind of movie, and generally mystery and suspense thriller fans will surely enjoy reading this one.

If you are still not convinced, read the full reading notes below.

Where to grab a copy?

This pundit highly recommends finding a copy you can borrow (i.e., from a friend or library), instead of immediately buying a new book. Trees are generally used to make the paper in the books we read so let’s be mindful.

If not possible, that’s only when one should consider buying a new book, and make sure to support your local bookshops. And online shopping (i.e., Amazon or whatever online bookstore serves closest to you) must only be your last resort.

Happy reading!

Lowen is a struggling writer. So when she received an invitation to finish the book series of renowned author Verity Crawford, who due to an injury could not continue writing, she couldn’t decline.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen unexpectedly finds is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read as it contains her darkest thoughts and secrets. As Lowen gets to know Verity through her manuscript, her unease and fear grow as she witnesses unexplainable things happening around the infirm author. She feels the need to protect Jeremy and his son, but would be showing him the manuscript save or doom them all?

Why read “Verity”

Reading some of CoHo’s works always gives me that sense that the stories in the romance novels grandmas, moms, or single aunts enjoy can be depicted as devious tales. That’s how this story made me feel upon reading this book’s first line.

"I hear the crack of his skull before the spattering of blood reaches me."

The bits of Verity’s autobiography threaded into the story as separate chapters made this book so gripping. I sometimes find myself flipping into the next part of the autobiography that I almost skipped a chapter. It was a narrative so ‘ugly and honest and bloody and a little bit terrifying’ that it grips your attention and doesn’t want to let go.

Drawbacks of “Verity”

The beauty of that autobiography highlighted the lack of substance for the other characters, especially the MC. Verity’s character is well-written with her many layers being bared in her ‘work’. However, the MC felt more like someone who was being led by the author’s need to follow the plot of the story which showed a lack of character development.
