If I am a pawn of the gods, it is because they know me so well, not because they make up my mind for me.
A story about queens and kings, of their kingdoms in strife, of gods they worship and believe, and the thief that could steal everything from them.
Who will love it?
For fantasy-genre lovers who prefer mythos-based fantasy stories, this book series is perfect for you! It is also a completed series so no more cliffhangers! 😉
(Also apparently there are plans to adapt it into a movie or series back in 2021 but I cannot find any updates about it now. I’m curious and would love to see how they will interpret the book to reel, so feel free to comment down below if you know anything about it. ❤️)

Where to grab a copy?
This pundit highly recommends finding a copy you can borrow (i.e., from a friend or library), instead of immediately buying a new book. Trees are generally used to make the paper in the books we read so let’s be mindful.
If not possible, that’s only when one should consider buying a new book, and make sure to support your local bookshops. And online shopping (i.e., Amazon or whatever online bookstore serves closest to you) must only be your last resort.
Happy reading!

Why read “The Queen’s Thief” Book Series
With its ingenious plot set in a complicated but well-crafted world plus characters that were deftly written and developed, it is easy to get attached to this series right off the first book. You can never take the story at face value because if you’re not too careful and get caught as the plot thickens, you might find yourself staring blankly at the last pages of one of the books at dawn with a dumb expression while silently screaming ‘WHAT?!’.
After finishing the first book, it is normal to expect that you’ll keep seeing the story through the ‘eyes’ of the MCs. But no. The author had other plans.
From Gen’s first-person POV for most of the first book (The Thief), then a limited 3rd-person POV for the next 2 books (The Queen of Attolia, The King of Attolia), Sophos’ first-person POV in the 4th (A Conspiracy of Kings), and then to first-person POVs of new characters in the 5th and last book (Thick as Thieves, The Return of the Thief).
It is actually the first time that I’ve noticed this kind of approach to storytelling, and it works! All this helped Miss Turner build the lore of her stories’ world and develop the MCs effectively while at the same time subtly weaving her plot to create a wonderfully layered fantastical world.
Drawbacks of “The Queen’s Thief” Book Series
The only thing that bothered me throughout the series was the number of complicated names I had to remember. The lore in the books’ world though based on existing mythos (hints of Greek, Roman, Mesopotamian (?)) used very different names, and sometimes you cannot just keep up especially if you have to wait for a few months to complete all the books (plus you read them sporadically because…well, life).
