Who will love it?

If you enjoy hiking gone wrong mysteries, with a touch of a thrilling otherworldly aspect, or just love the mystery/horror/thriller genre in general, you must check this series out starting with Briardark!

This series is also shaping up to be a good starting point for someone who wants to embark on the horror mystery genre.

If you are still not convinced, read the full reading notes below.

Where to grab a copy?

This pundit highly recommends finding a copy you can borrow (i.e., from a friend or library), instead of immediately buying a new book. Trees are generally used to make the paper in the books we read so we should be mindful.

Happy reading!

If not possible, that’s only when one should consider buying a new book. But make sure to support your local bookshops, and only make online shopping (i.e., Amazon or whatever online bookstore serves closest to you) your last resort.

Left alone and separated from the rest of her team, Sienna deals with grief and loss as she navigates the treacherous Briardark. Her sanity is tested to the limits with every tricks The Shadow plays creating despair over ever finding her way back home.
Cameron, on the other hand, had fully committed to chasing the ghost of her past. This led her to the Tooth, a settlement in Briardark of those who worship The Mother. But now they've trapped her for a ritual that might lead her to what she's looking for, or her end.
Holden continues to fight and look for Siena to the point of testing his limited knowledge of and skills for the outdoors. But when a raging wildfire threatens the success of the search, Holden embraces the possibility that he might need to rely on the unknown to find the missing researchers.
Will they all find what they lost in Briardark or will they find something more than what they bargained for?

Why read “Waywarden”

The first book’s cliffhanger perfectly sets the stage for the second one, that is, Sienna struggling with loss, grief, and loneliness. Though the pace of the story took a hit on the chapters that narrated this part, it effectively brought me to Sienna’s POV i.e., the fear of mortality, the want to give up because it all feels pointless, the boredom of such a long journey.

Usually, based on reviews, second books or sequels do not have a very nice run compared to the first. And I have to say S.A. Harian, kept the pace, the thrill, and the mystery of this ever-evolving world that is Briardark – in all its horrifying, brilliance.

On a more technical note…

The storytelling, which I commended in the first book, maintained its quality and even continued to complement the development of each character as Briardark tested all of them. The intrigue that it built from the first book continued to build with each chapter and I can’t help but be disappointed that I have to wait for the 3rd book. 🥲

Drawbacks of “Waywarden”

Other than the obvious drawback that we have to wait for the 3rd book, I could not think of any major reason that will let a reader down when reading this book series (other than the TWs of course).
